Centrally located in Benton County along US Highway 52, the Town of Fowler has been the county seat of Benton County since 1874. The Town was founded in 1872 by Moses Fowler and is home to nearly 2,500 people. A drive down Fifth Street will take you back in time as you pass the historic Fowler Theater, numerous downtown store fronts and brick-paved street lined with historical homes. Young students attend Prairie Crossing Elementary School and Benton Central High School. Fowler is also home to the County’s only private school, Sacred Heart.
Many local businesses have established shops in Fowler, including the maintenance and operations offices for the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm. Fowler Ridge is owned by Fowler Ridge Wind Farm LLC is owned by BP Alternative Energy North America Inc. and Dominion Resources, Inc. The Fowler Ridge Wind Farm is on a 50,000 acre site, near the town of Fowler, and when completed, will be one of the largest single wind-power facilities in the U.S/World. The first phase of the project is expected to generate 400 megawatts (MW) and came into operation in early 2009. A second phase of the project is now under construction.
The pool is being reconstructed with handicap accessibility and a water slide to attract tourists from other areas along with entertaining our county children. The park is a big attraction with the shelter houses rented throughout the summer for reunions and company parties. And of course the country club with the 9 hole golf course. Currently the Park Board is presenting a summer camp offered county wide for grades K-8. Teachers have been hired. We anticipate a large group. The Fowler Theater will have a free day time movie once a week sponsored by the Town of Fowler. There will be free movies in the park this summer offered montly. Alos, don't forget our 4th of July and Harvest Festivals.
The Town is governed by an elected Town Council and Clerk-Treasurer. The Town Council holds bi-monthly meetings on the first and third Monday of every month at 6 PM in the Town Hall. The public is encouraged to attend.
